Oh No - Welcome to Los Santos

The story of discovering a mysterious GTA V opening credits song. A year-long search ended when Oh No's 'Welcome To Los Santos' appeared on J Dilla radio.

A long long time ago when Grand Theft Auto 5 was released, I was listening to the song playing during the opening credits and thought "this song is really dope".

I immediately knew if it was a song produced by Rockstar (the game production company), it would be immensely harder to track down. I knew I was doomed before I looked.

Sure enough, after hours of searching, I couldn't find which song it was. The game was new and soundtracks were not yet posted. It drove me nuts. I geeked out about this song and couldn't ever listen to it again unless I started a new game.

Now I'm sitting here, a year later, listening to J Dilla radio on Spotify and guess what song pops up? That fucking song.

I immediately googled the title because whoever made the song was definitely not a game developer, they were a good music producer.

Sure enough, a specific wikipedia article on The Music of Grand Theft Auto V revealed the track was produced by Oh No and compiled by DJ Shadow, both very talented individuals in the industry, who wanted "to create a smooth West Coast vibe that embodied Los Santos". They succeeded.

So, now I'm jamming the hell out of this song and I think you should too.

Also: I used to hate Spotify, now they have won my heart.
